Welcome to Historic Granville, Ohio New England charm in the heart of Ohio
GACC Marketing Takes Flight
by: Michelle Newman Brady, Marketing Coordinator, Granville Area Chamber of Commerce
In the two short months I have been here, Steve, Leah, the various GACC committees and I have been hard at work on moving marketing and technology projects full steam ahead. I'd like to give you a bit of an update on what's happened recently and what you can expect to see soon. The summary is a bit lengthy, but for good reason - we are expanding services quickly and making your Chamber membership work for you even more!
The first project to mention is what you are reading now - the GACC Member Newsletter! In May 2015 we switched from a hard copy member newsletter to an e-newsletter sent to members through Constant Contact. This new format allows us to better track how many members interact with the newsletter and its content. We are also able to provide archived copies of the newsletter on the GACC website. To review past content, you can always access the newsletters at granvilleoh.com under the "About Us" section. Discussions are also in progress to establish a similar newsletter for the wider community.
The Granville App has renewed energy, focus and attention and continues to grow in both numbers of downloads and features. Since its inception in December 2014, the app has had over 700 downloads and 4,800 individual sessions. According to Citizen Sync, the app's developer, the most popular sections of the app are the Business Directory, Village Announcements, and Local Events & Offers. The Business Directory alone has been viewed over 3,500 times. An exciting feature we plan to add to the app this summer will be walking tours of Granville. Our first three tours are in development and will be unveiled this summer. Later in 2015, we hope to expand the Local Offers section by encouraging you, our members, to upgrade to Premium membership in the app for just $10/month. Lastly, it is also our hope that the Granville App will become the "go-to" source for the Village's event calendar! If you have interest in increasing your presence on the app, please contact Steve or myself for more information.
Facebook posting has really taken flight since April 2015. Both the Granville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Granville Farmers Market pages received a facelift with new profile and cover photos to enhance the professionalism of our social media presence. We also did a push for new "likes" and managed to increase our audience by adding more than 433 likes between the two pages. While that number alone may not seem large, the effect of those additional "likes" is far reaching. For example, during the launch of the updated Granville Farmers Facebook page, we hosted a giveaway of a 2015 Farmers Market poster for sharing a post. That post alone, as a result of the new likes and shares, reached over 6,800 Facebook users. While not everyone who enjoys the Market or the Chamber is a Facebook user, social media is a free and influential outlet for us as we strive to reach our fans, visitors, and potential members with information, events, and photos.
Granvillefarmersmarket.com went live in May 2015. Long requested by our Market vendors, this new website is home to the Market schedule, a complete list of vendors with website and social media links, and an interactive map that shows the layout of the market on a live Google Street map. The interactive map allows site visitors to plan their market visit and learn more about each vendor featured. To date, the website has fielded over 1,700 page views with nearly 950 site visits. Website statistics estimate that 781 unique visitors have perused our site. We hope this new avenue for information about our Farmers Market will increase its visibility throughout the state and give the Market's many visitors a unique and fun tool to stay connected to our vibrant Farmers Market.
From a visitor's standpoint, the visitgranvilleohio.com site serves as THE source of information for tourists headed to our community. We encourage those visiting Granville to "Eat. See. Shop. Stay." This visually stunning and easily interactive site works to direct visitors to area businesses. If you ever have any edits to your listing or would like an increased presence, contact me directly for changes at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Last, the Granville Area Chamber of Commerce website (granvilleoh.com) is now fully updated with the new GACC brand standards and is responsive for mobile traffic - an important development as Google changes its algorithm for search engine results. Any site that cannot be easily seen on a mobile device is lowered in search results. The old GACC website didn't "shrink" down for mobile users. The new site does! Statistics from all of our websites show that users overwhelmingly access our sites from mobile devices rather than desktop computing systems. Therefore, the overhaul to the GACC site will ensure that we stay near the top of search engine results when individuals search for Chamber information. In addition to this, we now have prominent places on the website where our members can post offers, items for sale, press releases and job postings. Just log into your Chambermaster account and get started today!
Statistics on all the technology developments will continue to be monitored for their usage, popularity and functionality. We at the Chamber are working hard to make sure you get the most possible out of your Chamber membership, and we believe that the improvements reviewed here will help each and every member bring more business to your door. Be sure to tell your customers, friends and families about these exciting developments; the more Granville knows about these resources, the better they can be connected to our Village and most importantly - to you!
TUESDAY MARKET KICKS OFF
The Tuesday Farmers Market (held from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at Ross' Granville Market parking lot) kicked off its season on June 9th. Some of our regular vendors from the Saturday Market will be at the Tuesday Market as well but you'll also find some 'niche' vendors - with unique items. Make it a part of your weekly summer routine to check out both Markets - you'll be healthier for the effort.
6/17 MEETING UPDATE
Our June 17th Member Meeting and Luncheon will feature a talk by Aaron Bass of the Media Network of Central Ohio on the topic of "Success with On-line Marketing". This will be an enlightening overview of the evolution of marketing techniques and the critical importance of digital marketing elements in promoting your business. Make a point to join us for a buffet lunch at the Granville Inn starting at 11:30 am. Lunch cost will be $ 15.00 per person and we need your RSVP for headcount purposes no later than close of business on Friday, June 12th. Due to a scheduling conflict, our originally planned speaker (Jerry Newton - Director of the Licking County Planning & Development Department) will speak with us at a Member Meeting later in the year.
POLO BEGINS AT BRYN DU
Don't miss the chance to see the sport of kings on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays of each month during June, July, August, and September at the iconic Bryn Du Mansion. Admission is free and competition runs from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Polo is a weather dependent activity so check play status at the Bryn Du Mansion Facebook page or check www.playpoloclub.us/schedule
