Welcome to Historic Granville, Ohio New England charm in the heart of Ohio
What's Up with
by: Steve Matheny,
Granville Area Chamber of Commerce
At our February monthly meeting we launched a new vehicle intended to help us improve the depth, frequency, and overall quality of our ability to network among ourselves. This new approach, which we have christened 'Meet Up' Networking, was an idea proposed by our Chamber colleagues at the local AmSpirit chapter who already use this technique among their own members. Business Networking International (BNI) also utilizes this approach to advance connections and business referrals among their membership.
We all have tight and demanding schedules and all too often the activity that gets relegated to the back burner is networking, making connections, and doing business among ourselves. Using this 'Meet Up' vehicle you are simply agreeing that making connections and referrals is important to you. It's easy...you simply put your name on the list and you will be paired up with a fellow Chamber member. Your charge is to connect with that individual at some convenient time, place, or occasion during the next month. This should be at date, time, and locale that is convenient for both of you. When you get together you simply take turns educating each other about your respective businesses. Hopefully you can adjourn after maybe an hour of conversation with a much more comprehensive awareness of each other's work along with insights regarding the types of customers sought and the kinds of leads desired to advance each of your businesses.
We expect this to be an ongoing activity and each month you'll be paired with a new/different Chamber member. In this manner you'll soon have a much richer understanding of what each of your Chamber colleagues does for a living. Barry Gasaway has agreed to serve as coordinator for this initiative. Barry is a member of both the Chamber and AmSpirit and he is very familiar with the benefits of this activity and how it works. Contact him directly at (740) 641-9795 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you want to sign up and begin participating. He will be identifying the 'Meet Up' pairings on a month to month basis. Since announced last month we've already had the first round of paired connections and the feedback we've heard has all been positive. Don't miss out - it's not too late to get involved. Going forward, let Barry or I know how this initiative is benefitting your business and we'll share your good news!
